First Mindanao Children's Games PDF Print E-mail

Developing potential athletes, the Provincial Government takes participants to compete in the 1st Mindanao Children's Games at UM Matina Campus, Davao City today, November 14.

After a month of holding series of sports clinics, the Provincial Sports Development Program called AGR KIDS (Agenda for Games and Recreation: Kabataan Ilayo sa Drugs) handled by Provincial Sports Coordinator Anthony del Rosario was able to produce 65 participants ages 12 under.

After identifying the top ten priority sports of the province (1st phase), the AGR KIDS is now on its 3rd phase and that is, bringing the products of sports clinics (2nd phase) to sporting activities where the children experience the real tournament and practice sportsmanship with different kids in a new environment.

In a written document released by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the objective of the 1st Mindanao Children's Games which will culminate on November 16 is "to gather children into one activity that knows no barrier or cultural and religious boundaries."

With the PSC, Sports for Peace Mindanao, Inc., Department of Education, Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS), and Archdiocesan Center for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue conceived the said 3-day activity. (Mera Grace E. Apuya of PGO-ID/PIA XI; Davao del Norte; 14/11/08)

Matagumpay na nagwakas kahapon (November 5) ang 2nd Governor Teng Mangudadatu Cup Inter Office/Agency Bowling Tournament sa Cristina Bowling Lanes, Tacurong City.

Ang naturang sports tournament na naglalayong mabigyan ng pansin ang kahalagahan ng "sportsmanship" sa diwa ng pagkakaibigan at pagkakaisa ay sinalihan ng mga kawani ng pamahalaan mula sa iba't ibang departamento ng provincial government, Local Government Units (LGUs) at iba pang sangay ng pamahalaan bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng Foundation Anniversary at Kalimudan Festival ng Sultan Kudarat.

Secretary Lapus Pushes for Creation of Sports Academy PDF Print E-mail

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus called for public and private sector teamwork to advance sports research and integration of sciences in the training of coaches and athletes.

Lapus is batting for the creation of a Sports Academy to institutionalize and professionalize training in sports. He keynoted today the "Seminar on New Trends and Innovation on Coaching Athletic Sports" organized by the Private Schools Association of ParaƱaque (PSAP), held at the Olivares College Stadium in Sucat, ParaƱaque.

"Through the Sports Academy, we can bring in new technologies so that our athletes can measure up to international practices and standards," he said.
